Dear Students

A Letter from Tari Stratton

Director of The Dramatists Guild Institute

The Dramatists Guild and I like would to thank you all for your support and encouragement as we built the Dramatists Guild Institute of Dramatic Writing from a small six-class beta semester to a larger program with nearly fifteen classes each semester, not to mention weekend workshops and our Plays in Progress (PIP) program.

We’ve had some growing pains as we’ve quickly expanded and worked to accommodate more and more students at every level of experience.

Now, we’re taking a step back to re-examine and rebuild.

As most of you know, there have been changes at the Guild since 2020 and the forced closure of the theater industry during Covid.  As we all take a pause and make the changes necessary to ensure the Guild remains as robust as possible, we will be taking a pause with DGI as well.  As such, we will not be offering any classes this fall and hope to have a new programming model for you starting in 2025.

As we transition to something new, I’d like to say I’m grateful to all of the instructors who have poured their time and attention into each class; I’m grateful to every student who has taken a class, and then took the time to reach out to let me know how much they enjoyed a class/instructor; and I’m especially grateful to those who gave me thoughtful ideas on how we could do better.

I’m proud of the family we’ve built at DGI and I look forward on what we can accomplish as we embark on new adventures together.

Are you a writer in need of financial assistance?

Do you need someone to review an unsigned contract before you sign it?

Looking for a model contract?

You deserve more than my words could say for what you are achieving with the DGI.

It provides both a place for playwrights to learn at a heightened quality level and a place for those who are winning awards and notice but not as much financially.”
